A new Commentary on Research by F. Xavier Pi-Sunyer, MD, MPH, entitled The Role of NEAT in Obesity. Obesity occurs when energy intake exceed energy expenditure over time. Much of the onus for the epidemic of obesity among Americans has been placed on excessive dietary intake. This commentary reviews the findings of a recent report that examined the relationship between obesity and patterns of non-exercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT) in lean and obese subjects.
