Educational Opportunities

Education is key to understanding any societal problem, including the epidemic of obesity.

While the Obesity Prevention Center has compiled a variety of educational opportunities seen here, we will also be sponsoring a variety of upcoming events.

U of MN Coursework

Students can find basic coursework that will help them become more aquainted with obesity, along with more advanced coursework which can send them on their way to a career in research.

AMA PRA Credit

A new Commentary on Research by F. Xavier Pi-Sunyer, MD, MPH, entitled The Role of NEAT in Obesity. Obesity occurs when energy intake exceed energy expenditure over time. Much of the onus for the epidemic of obesity among Americans has been placed on excessive dietary intake. This commentary reviews the findings of a recent report that examined the relationship between obesity and patterns of non-exercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT) in lean and obese subjects.

The Leadership, Education, and Training Program in Maternal & Child Nutrition has contracted with leaders in the field of public health, maternal and child health and maternal and pediatric nutrition to develop a web based curriculum entitled, "Childhood Obesity: Assessment, Prevention, & Treatment."
