Privileges of Membership
Obesity Prevention Center members are eligible to:
Obtain pilot Obesity Prevention Center funds for obesity research and/or educational activities.
Engage in opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration in obesity prevention
Use shared center resources
Responsibilities of Membership
Work with other members of the Obesity Prevention Center to develop and participate in research, education and outreach programs.
Acknowledge Obesity Prevention Center membership in obesity-related publications and presentations.
Notify Obesity Prevention Center Administration of obesity-related intramural proposals and/or extramural grant applications in which the member is or plans to be involved.
Obtain approval of Obesity Prevention Center administrative offices prior to use of Obesity Prevention Center Resources.
Participate in private fundraising activities.
Criteria for Membership
In order to be a member of the Obesity Prevention Center, an individual must either:
Have faculty rank at the University of Minnesota (Assistant Professor or above on the tenure or non-tenure track), have a commitment to obesity research, and have published peer-reviewed obesity-related research.
Be an investigator from outside the University of Minnesota who has an ongoing affiliation with other members of the Obesity Prevention Center and who collaborates in Obesity Prevention Center research.
Be a University of Minnesota faculty or staff member who contributes to the overall mission of the Obesity Prevention Center in the areas of research, education, and/or community outreach.
Procedure for Application
Individuals may apply for membership through submission of the Obesity Prevention Center Application for Membership.
The applicant will include a statement to the Obesity Prevention Center Directors regarding his/her interest in obesity.
If all criteria are met, the candidate will be appointed 'center member' by the Obesity Prevention Center Directors.
Review for Continued Membership
All members are reviewed by the Obesity Prevention Center Directors every three to five years for continued membership. Generally, membership is maintained unless there is a major change in career or research activities or appointment with the University of Minnesota has terminated. If, upon review, the Obesity Prevention Center Directors consider a member no longer meets the criteria for active membership, he/she will be contacted to discuss appropriateness of continued membership.
