 OPC Extramural Funding
One important aim of the Obesity Prevention Center is to assist faculty in taking advantage of extramural funding opportunities currently available in the obesity prevention area. The OPC has been quite successful in helping faculty compete successfully for external funds. For those who choose to have their grants housed in the OPC, we also offer additional benefits, including: - Opportunities for consultation with faculty who are internationally recognized for their research on the behavioral and environmental factors associated with obesity;
- Mentorship for junior faculty;
- Structure for fostering increased academic productivity;
- Portion of ICR returned to new investigators to further promote their careers;
- Availability of grants administration services including accounting services, and assistance with non-competitive renewals;
- Other research support services including statistical advising, data and safety monitoring services, and assistance with IRB applications.

Funded OPC Grants OPC Pilot Funding
Although no pilot research funds are currently being offered through the OPC, it is anticipated that future funding opportunities will become available. Please revisit this site for future announcements, or to automatically receive announcements for future OPC calls for proposals, please join the OPC listserv by sending an e-mail to: listserv@lists.umn.edu; leave the subject line blank; in the body of the message, type: subscribe obesityprevention, your first name, and your last name (example: subscribe obesityprevention Jane Doe). Previous OPC funding has supported educational outreach opportunities bringing professionals together to explore current research findings, practices, and policies related to obesity prevention. Projects funded under this mechanism have been multidisciplinary in nature and fit within the scope of the Obesity Prevention Center, i.e. focusing on obesity prevention and obesity-related behaviors across the lifespan from children to adults. Past pilot funding has been offered primarily as "seed monies" to assist investigators in the early or pilot phase of their studies. It is hoped that recipients use these monies to further develop their research so as to be successful in securing new extramural funding for obesity research. OPC Pilot Submission Information
